Varnish is a website accelerator platform, which caches data for faster access. It is occasionally referred to as a caching HTTP reverse proxy as well and it works between a web server and a web browser. When a website visitor opens a certain webpage, its content is requested by the browser, and then the web server processes this request and returns the necessary content. If Varnish is activated for a given website, it will cache the pages on the first request and in case the visitor accesses a cached page again, the content will be delivered by the caching platform and not by the web server. The boosted speed is an end result of the considerably faster response time that Varnish offers compared with any server software. At the same time, this doesn’t mean that the site visitors will continue seeing the exact same content over and over again, because any change on any of the pages is reflected in the content that the Varnish platform saves in its memory.
Varnish in Hosting
In case you host your websites in a hosting account with us, you will be able to add Varnish with a few mouse clicks from your Control Panel. The platform comes as an optional upgrade with all our plans and you can select the number of the websites that will use it and the total storage space that will be available for the cached data. The two features that can be upgraded in the Control Panel’s Upgrades section are the number of instances and the amount of system memory and they aren’t linked directly to each other, so you can decide if you want lots of memory for one large-scale website or less memory for multiple smaller ones. You can make use of the full potential of the Varnish platform in case the websites use a dedicated IP address. Using the Control Panel, you can quickly start/reboot/stop an instance, clear the cached files independently for each site that uses Varnish or see an exhaustive system log file.
Varnish in Semi-dedicated Servers
The Varnish platform is included in the standard service set that you’ll receive if you choose to host your sites under a semi-dedicated server account. You can activate it for any of your sites through our avant-garde Hepsia hosting Control Panel. The default amount of memory that Varnish can use to cache data is 64 megabytes, but if you decide that you need more, you can upgrade this amount from the Control Panel’s Upgrades section. You can also upgrade the Varnish instances, in other words – the number of the sites that can use this caching platform at the same time. Since these two things are not tied to each other, you can use a few instances with the default amount of memory or you can get more memory in increments of 32 MB and use all of it for one single site. The Varnish caching platform performs best when you use a dedicated IP address for the sites that utilize its power. Hepsia will offer you a simple means of rebooting any instance. What’s more, you will be able to clear the cached contents with only one mouse click.
Varnish in VPS Servers
You can use Varnish with any of our VPS server packages at no additional charge, as the content caching platform is pre-installed and is included by default. The only requirement is that the VPS server must come with the Hepsia Control Panel, via which you will be able to activate Varnish for any of your Internet sites with only a few mouse clicks. Each plan features a different amount of memory for content caching purposes, but you will get minimum several hundred MB, which is sufficient enough even for several large-size Internet sites. Soon after you activate Varnish, it will begin caching the content that your visitors open, so you will notice the tremendously faster Internet site loading speeds and the less load on your server very soon. The Varnish caching platform will permit you to use a less expensive VPS, since you will not need that many resources to sustain the uninterrupted operation of your sites even if you manage busy Internet sites with multiple visitors. Maximum results are achieved if the sites which use Varnish also use a dedicated IP.
Varnish in Dedicated Servers
If you order a dedicated server with the Hepsia Control Panel, you will obtain the Varnish content caching platform at no additional charge and you’ll exert total control over it through an exceptionally simple-to-use interface – you’ll be able to start, to disable or to restart an instance, to see an exhaustive system log, to clear the cached files for any website and much more. The Varnish caching platform will have several GB of virtual memory at its disposal, so even if you manage heavy Internet sites with a huge number of visitors, you’ll notice the much faster web page loading speeds and the less load on your dedicated machine. This will become a fact shortly after you start using Varnish, since it will need some time to cache the website content that people access. You can make the most of the platform’s capability in case the Internet sites that are using it use also a dedicated IP, but since your dedicated server comes with a couple of IP addresses by default, you won’t need to pay anything on top of the monthly charge for the server itself.
