Every single device which is connected to the world wide web has a special identifier known as IP (Internet Protocol) address. This includes computers, web servers, smartphones, switches, etcetera. The pool of IP addresses, which was introduced originally, has already been distributed, therefore the so-called IPv4 IP addresses are gradually being replaced with IPv6 addresses. Every domain that opens a site has an IP record, which is the address of the server where it is hosted. Using the IPv4 system, the record is called A and it consists of 4 groups of numbers from 1 to 255 separated by a dot, while with the IPv6 system it is called AAAA and it is made up of eight sets of hexadecimal numbers i.e. this kind of records use digits from 0 to 9 and letters from A to F. An example of an AAAA record is 2010:0c48:43d3:2142:1012:8c3a:2475:2435 and this format can handle a considerably bigger number of IPs when compared with the IPv4 format.
AAAA Records in Hosting
If you would like to create a new AAAA record for any domain address or subdomain hosted in your hosting account, it will not take you more than a couple of basic steps to do that. Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel is quite intuitive to use and it'll permit you to set up or change every record without difficulty. When you sign in and navigate to the DNS Records section, where you'll discover all current records for your domain names and subdomains, you'll only have to click the "New" button, pick AAAA from a small drop-down menu in the pop-up which will show up, input or paste the necessary IPv6 address and save the modification - it is as easy as that. The new record shall be 100% active within no more than an hour and the hostname you have created it for shall start opening whatever content you have with the other company. If necessary, you are also going to be able to edit the TTL (Time To Live) value, which signifies the time in seconds which the new record will be working after you eventually modify it to something different or you simply remove it.
AAAA Records in Semi-dedicated Servers
Creating a new AAAA record is quite easy with our user-friendly Hepsia hosting Control Panel, so if you host a domain address within a semi-dedicated server account from our company and you require such a record either for it or for a subdomain that you have set up under it, you'll be able to create it within a few quite simple steps and without any hassle. Hepsia has a section devoted to the DNS records of your domain names in which you can find all existing records or create new ones with a few clicks. All it takes to do this is to select the domain/subdomain that you would like to change, choose AAAA for the type from a drop-down menu and input the actual record i.e. the IPv6 address which the other provider has given you. Within an hour after you save the change, the new record will propagate globally and your domain will start directing to the third-party server. If they require it, you may also edit the TTL value, which indicates the time this record will be operating with its present value before a new one kicks in if you make any adjustments in the future.
